Stamell Strings is lucky to have violins by Gustav Wunderlich and his son Curt Wunderlich available for sale. This is a rare opportunity to see instruments made by father and son, to see the continuity of workmanship, and to compare the sound.

 

Gustav Wunderlich was born in Luby (Schonbach), Czech Republic, in 1872. He worked in Leipzig and Berlin. The violin we are featuring was made in Leipzig in 1934 and represents the maker at the height of his powers.

Curt Wunderlich was the son and pupil of Gustav. He was born in Leipzig in 1902, and died in his adopted home of Detroit Michigan in 1983. He emigrated to New York in 1924 where he worked with John Friedrich. He established his own business in Detroit in 1934. The violin we are featuring was made in Detroit in 1954.

Both violins were brought to us by the granddaughter of Curt Wunderlich.
