Claude Thomassin was born in 1865.  He apprenticed to Charles Bazin before joining Gand & Bernardel in Paris in 1885.  In 1901, Thomassin went out on his own, becoming on e of the most renowned bow makers of the 20th century.

Don MacKenzie has been repairing musical instruments on Cape Cod since the early 1960s. 
During the 1970s, William Salchow taught MacKenzie the traditional French approach to bow making and bow rehairing.
In the early 1980s, Marten Cornelissen began sharing his principles of violin acoustics with MacKenzie.
