About Randal:
Randal Bays is an American born, Irish style fiddler who brings power and passion to the old tradition. He's devoted many years to learning not just the tunes, but more importantly the feeling of Irish traditional music as handed down by the many great fiddlers and music lovers past and present. He renders the music with an intensity not commonly heard in any genre, powered by a deep love of the music, the culture, and a heartfelt wish to share this magnificent tradition with audiences.

Randal lives in Seattle and has been infatuated with Irish fiddle music for most of his life. He’s recorded and toured in the US, Ireland and Europe with Martin Hayes, Daithí Sproule, James Kelly and many more. He’s recorded several critically acclaimed albums of Irish fiddle music and is also a highly regarded finger style guitarist.

As Fiddler Magazine says, “Randal Bays is one of the finest Irish fiddlers one could ever hope to hear.”

For the last 10 years, Randal has been teaching Irish tune learning classes in the Seattle area, and due to the pandemic the classes have now moved online using Zoom.

http://randalbays.com/classesandlessons.html

The goal of these classes is to build a good repertoire of Irish session tunes, and also to improve at learning and playing by ear.  No written music is used in the classes.  Each week Randal will post recordings of the tunes at different tempos on our class website, where you’ll also find links to other musicians’ versions of the tunes, lots of background and history on the music and musicians, as well as an archive of several hundred tunes that he's taught in these classes over the years.  When you meet online he'll play the new tune a couple of times through, then teach it phrase by phrase, trying to make sure everyone has it before moving on.  As the series unfolds you will play though your already learned tunes every week, so by the time you're done you’ll have learned at least eight good session tunes and played them many times.

The next 8-week series begins in September, 2020.
