Cello by Claude Victor Rambaux
Paris, 1854

Rambaux was born in 1802 in Darney (Vosges), and died in Mirecourt in 1871. He worked with  Thibout at Caen, and Francois Gand in Paris before establishing his own workshop in Paris in 1838. This cello from 1854 has comfortable sloping shoulders, making it quite comfortable to play. The varnish is reminiscent of Gand with the deep reddish color. The cello is fully restored and has a rich, penetrating sound.

Price: $50,000

Domingos F Capela
Signed Antonio Capela above. Anta-Espinho Portugal 1975

Antonio Capela was born in 1932, in Anta, Portugal as the eldest son of Domingo Capela, a world renown violin maker and repairer. Antonio received a scholarship in 1961 while learning manual skills from his father, and went to work under the well known French lutier Etienne Vatelot. After a four month stay in Mirecourt, he studied at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, under the guidance of Sgarabotto and Sacconi from 1964 to 1965. His violins won first prize in 1965 and 1969 in Cremona and in 1972 in Poznan, Poland.

His perspective on ideas and craftmanship has been broadened by his frequent contact with craftsmen in other countries. He has served as a judge for many international competitions, and he has been invited as a guest of honor to nations such as Japan and Russia. As he inherited his talent and training from his father, he carries on the tradition by teaching his son Joaquim;further strengthening the deeply rooted instrument making tradition, initiated by Domingo Capel

This cello was made in 1975 on a large Goffriller pattern. The condition is pristine, and the sound is rich and full.

Pierre Marcel Series

We have recently found a wonderful line of instruments labeled Pierre Marcel. These instruments come to us from Belgium. All instruments are available in several grades and models; we are particularly fond of the Master models #5 and #6 in both Stradivari and Guarneri shapes. All instruments are tastefully antiqued, and feature well flamed Bosnian maple and European spruce.
We believe that these instruments compare tonally with more expensive instruments.

Instruments range from $2500 - $10,000
